Bitcoin is free to explore. Every coin we cover, each reading ranked against its own history, refreshed every hour, comes with a plan.
See the plansMembers: open the full versionIs the crowd scared or greedy right now? We don't ask anyone. We read seven numbers from real positions, funding and options, rank each one against its own history, and average the ranks into one gauge: 0 is the most fearful, 100 the greediest.
Every number is on this page. Each reading is shown on its own, with where it comes from, when it was read and how much history it is ranked against.
It is not a signal. This is a reading of the crowd, not a trading signal and not a call on where the price goes next. A greedy crowd can stay greedy for a long time.
| Reading | Now | Against its own history | Score |
|---|
Each reading is ranked against its own past. A score of 70 means the reading is higher than 70% of the readings we have recorded for it on this coin, hour by hour. Ties count half. A reading has no score until it has enough history, and the table says how much it has.
Every score points the same way. For most readings a higher number means a greedier crowd. For the two options readings it means more fear, so we flip them: a put/call ratio higher than ever scores 0, not 100.
The gauge is a plain average. Every scored reading counts the same. No weights, no fitting.
Each coin's gauge and the score of each reading, from 0 (fearful) to 100 (greedy). Click a coin to see its readings.
The gauge says where the crowd stands against its own recent past. It does not say what happens next. Crowds can stay greedy, or scared, for weeks. Its track record is coming: we are testing it head to head against the public Fear & Greed index, and the result goes on this page when it's in.
We record these readings every hour. A rank against a few days of history moves more than one against a year, so each reading says how much history it has.
Four of the seven readings come from the largest Hyperliquid accounts, read every hour. Other exchanges don't publish positions, so their traders are not in those four. Options come from Deribit, which lists them on Bitcoin and Ether only.
